World warfare I also known as the Great contend by many began in the summertime of 1914 and ended in November of 1918. The fight involved all of the arenas great powers and left more than 9 one million million dead due to technological advances in weapons. The war was a result of the killing of the Archduke and leaders aggression towards other countries which were stand uped by the rising nationalism of the European nations. Economic and imperial tilt and fear of war prompted military alliances and an arms race, which further escalated the tenseness contributing to the outbreak of war.
In June 1914, a Serbian terrorist assassinate Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary. The Archduke was assassinated in his car during a drive in Sarajevo. The assassination was the work of a terrorist radical known as the Black Hand a Serbian nationalist secret society.  The Archduke was chosen as a propose because Serbians feared that after acquiring the throne, he would continue the persecution of Serbs living  indoors the Austro-Hungarian Empire. This caused Austria-Hungary to take the opportunity to stamp its authority upon the Serbians and did so by issuing an ultimatum that was compromised of a long a list of demands make upon the Serbian government.



Austria called upon Germany as an ally to discuss how far Germany would support them. The result of this meeting was the `Blank Cheque which gave Austria Germanys full support. Austria declared war on Serbia which created a war that would split Europe in two.
Along with this death that ignited the beginning of World War I, there were many other reasons why World War I began. The alliance system increased unnecessary tautness in earlier years and was as much at fault as anything in increasing the scale of difference which would eventually snap. The Central powers which consisted of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy went to war with Great Britain, France, and Russia which were known as the Allied powers.
