As The Red Badge of Courage begins, members of a freshly recruited regiment are arguing over a rehearsal stating that they are finally going to move out on the side by side(p) day and attack the enemy. A young soldier, named enthalpy Fleming, doesnt participate in the debate and instead thinks approximately what leave alone happen to him when they take up to appointment. He wonders if he volition run or stand and fight bravely. He enlisted because he wanted to be a hero. His mother, however, wasnt interested in this idea at all, and discouraged him from enlisting.
