In the first of Descartes meditations, he brings to our attention the idea that our senses
ar deceptive. He claims that even were our senses to deceive us just once, they would be
completely untrustworthy. Throughout the meditation, he seeks to prove his assumption, by

dreams, asserting that our senses lead us to cover something that does not exist. In proving

philosophically, I cannot jockstrap but realize a certain flaw in Descartes reasoning. It is simply this:
If we are called as philosophers to questions all things that we perceive to be true, then we would
be doing ourselves a disservice not to do by our own methods with the same respect that we treat
all former(a) things we hold to be true.



It would seem then, that we are experiencing a dilemma, for if
we regard that our method of doubt is true, then we are bound to question that truth. However,
the only way we could successfully challenge this truth would be to use the method of doubt to
prove the method of doubt. The clear conclusion would be that we need to doubt even our
doubt, therefore, the method of doubt must undermine itself.
I cannot claim for a moment that something that undermines itself is in anyway sound.
For instance, if my father were to instruct me in a certain way, say the fact that it is never near to
lie, I have no reason to disbelieve him do I? However, with this knowledge, if I were to witness
