2.A Modest Proposal is a persuasive, satirical piece. The main purpose of this condition is to coax the reader to side with the idea of selling and prep children in Ireland. During this time, Ireland was immersed in poverty, so the root ironically attempts to convince the reader that eating children provide be a firmness to the people of Ireland. This piece is an extended satire because obviously the authors end is implausible and irrational. The author uses numerical info to appeal to countersign, and references experts to appeal to ethos. The article uses similes, animalistic imagery, comparing poor, glut children to animals who are sold, cooked, and eaten as not to be wasted in such a poor situation. Of course, the authors proposal is far from modest, and throughout his satirical proposal he backs up his claims with numerical data and appeals to human logic.
