The venue
As part of my physics coursework, I had been given the privilege to visit Thorpe Park, an amusement park set in Staines, and investi entry on how some of the beat backs circled around the principles of physics. devising our own way there, our class gathered at the introduction at around 9 a.m. just before the gate opened. We totally got to experience the thrills of a few rides before attend the lecture at 11:20 by a mechanical engineer at the Workshop. Amusingly, the lecture wasnt as bad as I thought it would be; in fact it was very interesting and informative. The lecturer highlighted upon the fact that all the rides constructed had to be based on the fundamental concepts of Newtons laws of motion and to consider energy changes in the system, such as the energy generated from initial acceleration of the coaster at the top of a hill.
The physics in rides The purpose of the coasters initial climb in a roller coaster ride, like Colossus- the ride which I personally studied upon, is to build up a reservoir of potential energy. At the top of the first face lifting hill which is about 100 ft tall, there is a level best potential energy because the coaster is as high as it gets, as illustrated by the equation for potential energy Ep=mgh. As the coaster starts going down the hill, this potential energy is converted into energizing energy hence it speeds up. At the bottom of the hill, there is maximum kinetic energy and little potential energy. When it enters the loop, it has a chaw of kinetic energy but as it speeds to the top of the loop, potential-energy levels builds up. It is before long converted back to kinetic energy as the coaster leaves the loop.
